We had such positive feedback from those of you who learnt new skills, tips and techniques, from last year’s wonderful workshop presenters and are thrilled with the range of both technical and practical workshops, on offer for 2026!

Saturday 16th May

  • 10-1pm Ladderback Jacquard; the key to stunning stranded knitting – Zanete Knits (Room A) £55

    Join us for an exclusive workshop designed to master the Ladderback Jacquard method, a game-changer for knitters who love stranded colourwork but struggle with float management. This comprehensive session will guide you through the various techniques to catch floats efficiently, with a special focus on the tips and tricks of the remarkably invisible method - Ladderback Jacquard.

    Level of Experience: Intermediate

    Structure and outcomes In this workshop, we'll dive into the world of stranded colourwork knitting. We'll kick things off with a quick overview of its key features and float management techniques, then take a closer look at the ladderback jacquard method. To bring the theory to life, we'll work on a small swatch together. By the end of the session, you'll have a solid understanding of the ladderback jacquard method and how to use it in your future stranded projects. With this new skill, you'll be ready to take on a wider range of colourwork motifs.

    Prerequisites and Materials You should have basic knitting skills, including knitting and purling and knit increases. While experience with colourwork is ideal, it's not necessary. You will need: ● fingering to DK weight yarn in two contrasting solid colours, ● needles suitable for the chosen yarn

  • 10-12 midday Square Loom Weaving Workshop - Tabby And Tweed (Room D) £45

    Learn how to weave your very own, gorgeous, square piece of fabric.

    You will have access to a range of beautiful yarns and fibres and will be provided with the square frame weaving loom kit, which will be yours to take away after the session.

  • 10-12.30pm Get The Knitted Look With Crochet – Tenguerengue (Room C) £35

    Learn how to crochet with a knitted look in this 2.5 hour, hands on workshop.

    After this session, you will know the stitch variations you need to use to achieve the knitted look in your projects and garments. You will also learn how to combine these stitches with other techniques, such as short row, to create garments and pieces with a knitted look.


    This workshop is not for total beginners. To follow the session comfortably you will need to know the basics of crochet (double crochet stitch, half treble stitch, treble stitch).


    All the materials are included in the price which includes a crochet hook, yarn, a yarn needle and step by step printed instructions to take home. The class is taught in right-handed technique but if you are left-handed please let us know on booking.

    Taught by certified crochet instructor Cristina Valladares, who teaches regular courses and workshops in Bristol and the surrounding area. She also offers one to one tuition or ad hoc workshops.

    Learn Tunisian crochet colourwork technique with Cristina (aka Tenguerengue), who will guide you through the process of making a colourful wall hanger in this 2.5 hour workshop.

    Discover essential skills to work with different colours and open up endless creative possibilities for future projects.

    This workshop is not for total beginners or people that never had contact with any form of crochet. Ideally you will know the basics of Tunisian crochet but if you have any experience with standard crochet, you are very welcome too.

    All the materials are included in the price, which includes a Tunisian crochet hook, yarn in 7 different colours, a yarn needle, a wooden stick, a stitch marker and step by step printed instructions to take home.

    The class is taught in right-handed technique but if you are left-handed please let us know on booking.   • 1.30-3.30pm Rigid Heddle Weaving Workshop - Tabby And Tweed (Room D) £55

    Come and enjoy the beautiful art of Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving.

    Participants will be introduced to the rigid heddle loom available for them to use during the session. The loom will be warped and ready for weaving to begin. Participants will be taught how to weave a piece of fabric which they will be able to take home with them.

    Level of Experience: Suitable for Beginners but quick learners or those who have woven before will have the opportunity to weave more complex designs using pick up sticks.

  • 2-5pm The Secret To Mastering The Japanese Short Row Technique – Zanete Knits (Room A) £55

    Level: Intermediate

    If you have been looking for a way to take your knitting skills to the next level, this workshop is perfect for you!

    It will give you a comprehensive understanding of the Japanese short-row technique, its benefits, and how it can be applied in different situations. Mastering this method could open up new possibilities for creating more complex garments, so come along and join this interactive and hands-on session!

    Structure and outcomes: We will cover the background of short rows and the Japanese short-row technique. This will include an in-depth look at the fundamentals of the method, which can get quite technical. To put the theory into practice, we will make a swatch and test out five different situations. By the end of this workshop, you will learn how to use Japanese short rows as a substitute for any other short row method, and you will be able to determine what steps to take when you encounter a short row turn in any given scenario.

    Prerequisites and Materials: Prior experience with short rows is optional. You should have basic knitting skills, including casting on, knitting and purling stitches. While experience with knit and purl decreases is ideal, it's optional, as we will practice these techniques.

    You will need:

    ● Fingering to DK-weight yarn in a light solid colour

    ● Knitting needles suitable for the chosen yarn

  • 2.30-5pm Make a Beaded, Kumihimo Bag Charm - Moon Beads (Room B) £35

    In just over 2 hours you’ll learn how to set up a kumihimo disk, ready for beaded braiding, master two different braiding techniques, incorporate beads into the braid and complete the Bag Charm with a professional finish.


    At the end of the workshop, you will be able to take away a finished braided Bag Charm, plus a basic Kumihimo Kit in order to make another project at home.

    Suitable for all abilities.


    All beads, threads, instructions and a basic Kumihimo Kit are supplied within the cost of the workshop.

  • 10-11.30am Learn To Spin On A Turkish Spindle (Room B) £30

    This workshop is aimed at complete beginners or those who have spun a little but want to troubleshoot some common problems that beginners experience.

    We will cover:

    Basic attributes of wool and other fibres Staple length (very important!)

    Things to look out for in a fibre

    The mechanics of twist

    Making a leader and attaching it to your spindle

    The ‘park and draft’ technique

    Basic trouble shooting (overspin, underspin, lumps and bumps, backspinning)

    A quick overview of plying and finishing.

    All materials will be provided, with the option to purchase your spindle at a discount at the end of the workshop.

  • 10-12 midday Crochet Necklace Workshop - Notion and Needle (Room C) £25

    Showcase your creativity in style by putting your crochet skills to work with these colourful, customisable necklaces. They’re the perfect way to highlight your talent and create unique jewellery that pairs beautifully with your knitwear.

    After a workshop outline, you will get under way, creating crochet circles for your necklace.

    Once you have chosen your necklace colour, beads and additional circles, you will get them threaded onto the necklace, ready to take home with you.

    Participant requirements:

    Basic crochet skills: ability to chain, make a treble crochet (UK terms) and work into a ring (although we will help with that).

    3mm or 3.5mm crochet hook

    Yarn scraps (minimum of 5g)

    Darning needle

    Scissors

  • 10.00-11.30am Backstrap Loom Weaving - Jo Peake Creates (Room D) £25

    Learn to use a backstrap loom.

    Weave your own unique piece of woven fabric using natural fibres.

    The looms will be pre threaded and Jo will guide through the technique of this ancient craft.

  • 11am-12 midday Demystifying Ravellry - Beki Dickson (Room A) £10

    A short workshop to help you with the basics of using Ravelry; how to buy patterns, use your library and get the best results from your searches.

    We will discover where to find new and popular patterns and there will be a chance to ask any questions to help you get started with this useful resource.

    Attendees will also leave with a simple guide to help them when flying solo!

  • 12-2pm Woolly Wire Words - A Spring Snowflake (Room B) £30

    Create a treasured piece for your home or as a gift. You'll learn how to use a knitting mill (like a knitting dolly but much faster) to create a long i-cord. You'll then combine this with craft wire and shape your creation. Participants can choose to create a word of their choice or a shape (chosen from a range of templates).

    Suitable for attendees aged 8 and up, however children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.

    If you enjoy using the knitting mill, these will be available to purchase after the workshop.

  • 12.30-3pm An Introduction To Colourwork Knitting - Needle And Feather (Room A) £35

    This workshop is perfect for beginners to colourwork knitting, or those who want to improve their technique, troubleshoot issues and make the most of this fantastically varied technique.


    We will cover choosing your colours, managing floats and multiple yarns, emphasising certain stitches and much more!


    Annah from Needle And Feather is trained Textiles teacher, and has sold thousands of colourwork patterns, helping people across the world to knit fantastic colourwork creations.


    During this workshop, you will work through a series of charts, each of which will focus on a different technique or aspect of colourwork. An ability to knit and purl confidently is essential, however no experience with colourwork is required.


    You’ll need to bring yarn and needles: DK or Aran weight is recommended. Bring yarn in a range of colours, ideally 5 or more. You’ll only need a small amount of each colour, maximum 10g of each.

  • 12.30-2pm – Create Your Own Colourway With Solar Dyeing - Gorgeous Yarns (Room D) £47

    Solar dyeing is a simple way to use natural dyes and create your own beautiful skein of yarn in colours of your choice.

    The session will teach you about natural dyes, mordants and the solar dye method. You will be provided with a basic kit and you can choose the colours you use for your own unique skein.


    This is a very eco-conscious way of dyeing yarn that doesn't need any specific equipment or a dedicated workspace, so it is easy to continue this at home after the session.


    Please bring an apron or old shirt to cover your clothes in case of splashes.

  • 2-3.30pm Show off your makes! How to photograph all you create - Jon Bird Photographer (Room C) £20

    You put so much care into all that you create; come along and find out how to take images that will give justice to your beautiful makes!

    We will go through tips in how to control lighting, compose your shots, think about backgrounds and photograph your makes in the best possible ways.

    The workshop will focus on photography of garments and items, for social media or your own use.

    It will also look at how to photograph your garments, when you are wearing them, with a few scare-free tips for being in front of the camera and having portraits you are pleased with.

    Then we will all have a go at taking some images, using the great natural light from the central atrium.

    Requirements:

    You are welcome to bring a digital camera, but can also use a point-and-click, or even your phone!

    No prior knowledge or experience necessary.

  • 12.30-3pm An Introduction To Tunisian Crochet - A Spring Snowflake (Room B) £28

    Learn the basics of Tunisian crochet and start a colourful patchwork style blanket.

    As part of the workshop you will receive a copy of the Radiating Squares blanket pattern and 4 colours of DK yarn to create the first 4 blocks of the blanket.

    You will learn the differences between Tunisian crochet, standard crochet and knitting, how to cast on and work the Tunisian Simple Stitch, and simple decreasing.

    Please bring a standard crochet hook, without an ergonomic handle, 2-3 sizes larger than you would normally use when crocheting with DK weight yarn (5.5mm or 6mm is a good place to start). Basic knowledge of how to chain and tension yarn is needed.
